Calvin Moore Announced As The 2008 Distinguished Citizen Award Recipient
He is past president of the Massachusetts Retail Lumber Dealers Association and served on the board of directors of the Northeastern Retail Lumber Association. He is a past president and board member of the Ayer/Shirley Lions Club as well as a past president and current board member of the Safari Club International New England Chapter. His involvement and contribution to so many organizations is too numerous to mention.
The Nashoba Valley Chamber of Commerce awarded Moore the Outstanding Professional Business Person Award for 2007. The Battered Women's Resources of Leominster awarded Moore with the Shining Star Community Award for his work on behalf of Battered Women's Resources with his annual fund-raising event at his Billiards Café business in Ayer. At another one of his businesses, Riley's Design Center in Ayer, he has held several wine-tasting nights to raise money for breast cancer.
He has been responsible for a number of service projects involving repairs to the council building and the council camps. Among his many achievements, Moore is responsible for renovating many of the downtown Ayer historic buildings. For the last 16 years, he has sponsored the annual G. V. Moore Lumber Company Boy Scout golf tournament, where he has raised close to $300,000 for the Boy Scout council.
Moore is a very active outdoor sportsman who has traveled to 14 foreign countries for hunting and fishing. He spends a lot of his time sponsoring fund-raising events to raise money for conservation and wildlife causes.
